Metro police dealt with 132 complaints about fireworks on Guy Fawkes night, the City of Cape Town said on Friday.

"The metro police control centre remained busy until the early hours of this morning," said metro police deputy chief Yolanda Faro.

"Most of the complaints received were related to people discharging fireworks in residential areas," she said.

Three people were fined for discharging fireworks outside designated areas. Faro said police also received a report of an eight-year-old girl who burnt her hand as she was discharging a fire cracker at Sunrise Beach, in Muizenberg. She was attended to by paramedics.

In Macassar, police attended to a complaint about a group of people setting off fireworks in the streets. They told the group where to go to safely discharge their fireworks, Faro said.
